HSBC New Zealand is removing cheques and drafts as payment methods after 25 June 2021

Over the next few months we’ll be removing HSBC cheques, bank cheques and bank drafts as a method to receive or make payments.

Removing cheques has been a carefully considered decision, based on the changing ways our customers bank with us. Many of our customers now prefer the safety, convenience and speed of making and receiving payments digitally. Cheque usage has decreased significantly in recent years, which is why we’ve decided to phase them out by 25 June 2021.

Important Dates

To give you time to transition to alternative payment methods, we are phasing the change as follows

Friday, 28th May 2021

  • The last day you can purchase an HSBC bank cheque or bank draft from our New Zealand office.

Friday, 25 June 2021

  • The last day you can deposit cheques, bank cheques or bank drafts into your HSBC accounts
  • The last day cheques issued by HSBC customers can be deposited at other banks.
